Today I have come to the conclusion that I will continue to live the ongoing half-life for some time to come so I will take a sabbatical from this blog to the end of October or longer. I wanted so badly to show you the photos of the new place but do not wish to impose on Gayle and her computer any more than I have to. The three of us are getting along remarkably well considering that we were bought together in the course of fate and an otherwise standard real estate transaction but we are all looking forward to the day when we can re-establish two separate nests once more. We are all living and working in the rug canyons between piles of full moving boxes, both theirs and mine. It sort of reminds me of once living in the Katlady's boarding house in a huge brick Victorian ... well, except that she had no intention of moving anywhere at the time.
Wayne is doing the classic frantic rush to get the heavy and nasty jobs done at their new place before his surgery next week and Gayle is doing the related fruitless fretting and damage control. The good news is that I have convinced Gayle to start a blog about their new start-from-bare-earth homestead. She writes very well and will have plenty of stories about their shoe-string adventures as they develop. All I have to do now is remind her to take her camera along, right Mushy?
As with our long down times at the ranch, my imagination has been in high idle with all the possibilities and potential here. All must be planned around the recent market tank and a new tight budget in mind now. Lots of bang-for-the-buck projects on the slate so watch this space come November! Red's uber-geek son promised to come through for me with something reliable in the way of a computer system and then I will be back in full blog force! Hopefully he will also be able to retrieve all the cool unpublished photos which I had taken previously on the ranch. .

To paraphrase the old HEE-HAW show: "You're a-postin', an' I'm a-watchin'...!"
I will be waiting in November... hope Red's son gets you up and going soon.. looking forward to your pictures!
Come on over and use computer. Kelly skydives tomorrow so we'll talk with him tomorrow PM or Sunday. I've told him that you don't jump out of aircraft unless the aircraft is burning or about to crash. Kids, they don't listen.
Hopefully, I'll see you tomorrow. Sure glad that the move is done and that you're closer (and safe). Red
Looking forward to the coming chapters of your unfolding experience. Sending warm thoughts your way daily. xoxo
I know you will get alot accomplished without blogging to distract you. I amazed at what I get done when I turn the computer OFF for a couple of days! Should really do that more often...
Hi Sweetie,
So nice to hear from you. You sound upbeat and looking ahead.
Can't wait to see your new blog as I'm guessing it will have a different name and look now that you've left the creek behind.
I'm tossing around the idea of starting a new blog too as you can see by my new avatar and my real name. xxx love you.
Leah (formerly known as Babzy)
Hey, Bruno - thanks for staying on watch for me while I am wading through the box canyons. Soon! (I hope, I hope, I hope!)
Thanks, A1! If Red's boy fixes me up with a system, I know it will be a great one. And to get my photos retrieved from the old one ... beyond priceless!
Red, I am glad I don't have to discuss computer things with Kelly in the middle of a free fall; at this stage of life, I have no desire to test my bladder control more than necessary.
Phlegmmy, you just might get the up front and in person tour of the house makeover at this rate. Are you good at sanding and painting? I will even throw in some carpentry and electrical OJT lessons if you like.
OHHH Jenny, you know what is worse for me than the computer? TV! After 15 years without a TV, I am sitting here relentlessly soaking up their TV access like a junkie. But now, given the quality of those offerings, I've decided that I will ignore Sally's dictate that I must get a big ol' TV when I am settled in. Ain't gonna happen - I'd much rather spend that time visiting all my old blog friends!
Geez, Leah, I am really torn on walking away from the creek journal just yet, especially since I never really finished up with our adventures out there. I think it is going to be as hard as driving away from the Rat and the canyons in the physical was for me. I guess my heart is still there with Terry and our dream.
I so hope you will start a new blog, Leah - I know it will be every bit as kick-butt as your previous one. I will need good and fun reading over this coming long winter, you know.
Lin: We will be here for you when you return...God Bless.
So glad to read a new post. Sounds like you have several projects in mind that will get you busy soon. You sound very upbeat. We can only hope the surgery will go well for Wayne and he won't have caused any delay by working so hard to get their place ready. It makes such a difference to be with people and get along so well under stressful conditions. As always, we will be looking forward to seeing pictures - even before and after of the new place.
Watching the weather forecast about Hurricane Norbert affecting New Mexico we are once again relieved that you are in a better area so not to be isolated and not able to get out.
Love,
S & J
Thank you, Pat ... I know that you and the boys won't desert me - God bless you, too!
S&J, I think the imagining of new projects is really what is keeping me going right now. Just hoping the momentum won't fade before I can start working on them. I am already getting restless in not being able to do anything yet.
For some reason the storms have missed us so far (but Red was getting rained on in the East Mountains) but the winds here today were impressive. It really messed up the hot air balloon festival in ABQ and it sounds like the ranch is getting its share as well.
"Getting restless" - That's a very good thing, much better than sitting around with no ambition or energy to do anything.
You'll be ready to go soon. In the meantime take those pictures for all to see.
Love always,
S & J
S&J, I'm thinking that this is a good sing, too. We'll see what happens when I realize that I can't lug construction materials by myself like I used to.
You'll be pleased to know that I started taking photos this morning - even though it was only of their many critters and I do mean MANY!
I'm with the rest of the crowd: It's good to see a post... any post... from you, Lin.
I kinda-sorta relate to your experience with the moving, having acquired a few of those tee shirts in my lifetime... but none under the horrible circumstances with which you're working. Hang in there!
Our weather has been pretty miserable this weekend, by "normal" standards... which is to say cool, gray, windy, and LOTS of rain. But ANY and all rain is a Great Good Thing here on the High Plains, so I'll grin and bear it.
Looking forward to November!
Um, I'm good at choosing paint colors!
Just kidding. I'm good at painting too, but I'm smart and a quick study. I'll do my best!
I hope that whatever you decide, you keep the blog alive so we can continue to read through the history, to live, to learn, to laugh, to cry, along with you again and again. So many stories and lessons here that need to be saved.
Buck, we got some light rains after dark on Saturday but Gayle heard that a tornado touched down and threw debris all over I-40. Does make me wonder how the Rat fared this weekend.
Moving definitely sucks, even under the most positive of prospects. Guess I've seen both ends of that spectrum now, back to back even. As the police would say "Don't move!"
Wooo, Phlegmmy, bring your painter whites then for the next episode of Paintin' Place! We can make the pricey pilgrimage to the DYI store in ABQ and go nuts with the color chips.
We'll find a good lunchy munchy place on the way back.
Brigid, with any luck, the stories will continue - I don't want to lose the connection with my blog family.
Got any flier miles saved up? It would be fantastic if you could join Phlegmmy and I for a couple of days of NM mischief. I couldn't think of a better excuse to wander out from the new place for a while.
Wooo, Phlegmmy, bring your painter whites then for the next episode of Paintin' Place!
Well, now. Ya gotta be "of a certain age" to get THAT double-entendre, dontcha? ;-)
Ol' Grace's tour de force was the first "racy" book I ever read... and I was too young at the time to really "get it." Sorta. (Insert yet another big ol' grin here.)
Oh, Lin,after reading this post and the comments, I got this humongous urge to drop everything, put on my ole clothes and hunt you down in your new location and paint the entire interior of your new abode and move all your belongings for you.
Happily, wisdom, in the form of a pet cat on my lap, discouraged me totally. Phew. Close call.
You are right about the blog name. You've got too much to tell us about that part of your life with Terry.
You didn't give us Gayle's URL.
I look forward to having you back soon!
Take care :)
Buck, oh my, you're right about that historical reference to Peyton Place. But, ya know, Phlegmmy has an incredible range for someone of her enviable tender age.
I once lived about 15 miles from the town that inspired those stories. Ay-yup, all those towns held a racey book just waiting to be written. Hollis the undertaker could make your hair stand on end with his gossip.
Alex, I can't wait to get back into some sort of normalcy SOON!
Cat, I don't know how many times a cat firmly planted in my lap has saved me from regrettable wild hair decisions - like firing up the vacuum cleaner. Bless them all!
I really am in a conundrum on how to journal our old dream life and this unexpected new one. I suppose it is just an extension of dealing with the matter in reality as well. I sure wish Terry was around to share his sage and logical advice once again. It's just not the same, this bouncing ideas off yourself and the fur family.
Thanks, Helena, I will surely try. You hang in there, too, girl!
Cat ... P.S. I'm waiting for Gayle to post her second entry before I send you over to her new blog. That might take a while since they are overwhelmed with getting their new place ready to occupy with people and critters AND moving their stuff over there. They have amassed serious quantities of STUFF, too - Katlady quality amounts even. There but for lazy and dishonest movers on our trek to NM go I so I can relate, sympathize and envy so well.
Lin, I can't wait! But I'll have to learn patience...;)
Good luck with getting everything set up just as you like it.
I'll be thinking good thoughts and sending them your way.
Hi Lin...I just got back from ten days on the road to Missouri and Texas .... and here you are with a new post for us...HOORAY!
It sounds like you are sort of kind of settling in the new place, with some new friends and (it sounds like) the plan to keep blogging. That's great!
There are old stories to tell and new ones you will make. And soon we may have Gayle's blog to read ... and someday we can all meet at your new homestead for a painting party or a "we are survivors" party or heck....just a plain ole party party.
Love you and miss you, my friend, so it is good to have any word from you...
Praise God she lives!
Always watchin' and waitin'!
Glad to hear that you're still churnin' and burnin', and lookin' forward to the pictures and the new stories. Chin up big sis.
Um, er, "...we were bought together...."
Darn. If i'da knowed, i'da shure 'nuff made a bid fer three women.
I have no doubt yu will be able to take us all down memory lane with the tales of your past (er, the [past you can talk about). Crap, I keep gettin' in deeper. Stay well, sweetie, and keep smiling.
lin - Of course I have an incredible range. After all, I am a dramatic soprano.
LIN
Don't think I missed the observation about box canyons. I represent that remark. Hurry up and get a computer going.
I have 90 feet of Martha Stewart floral wallpaper border to send you in what I believe are colors you like.
KATLADY
If I'm honest: a little concerned here. I hope you haven't run yourself down and contracted pneumonia, dearest. Please be all right.
Hurry back soon.
I know Lin, tought times, but do the best to enjoy this Thanksgiving.
