Twenty Four Little Hours
.
.
If this computer obliges and limps along with me a little while longer, I will be updating the well construction notes every other day until I catch up. The majority of activity took place in barely 12 hours. If you have ever been amazed by a trail of determined and organized ants on a mission, you will be equally impressed by this process.
I missed the chance to photograph the next step after the bulldozing and grading of the construction site which was the placement of a liner in the very large reserve pit and the construction of a fence around the perimeter. My camera let me down again.
.
.
Then the tanks arrived one by one (first segment above) followed by a steady procession of tankers to fill them up with what is either water or chemicals or perhaps both.
.
.
The next major items to arrive were the rig stairs and the mats aboard a flat bed as seen in the top two segments of the photo above. These mats will provide a more stable base for the rig and work area. Bottom segment of this photo: This is the part I enjoyed. On the far right side, you will see an articulated Volvo loader. He was required to unload the stacked mats and then take them in bundles of three to place down in front of a foot crew of roughly five men waiting to put them into place manually. Even from our distance, it was a joy to watch this operator move his machine so fast, so accurately and so deftly. He would take the mats and shake the dirt and snow off them, jockey into position, set them down and be off for the next set in one fluid motion, his machine bending nearly in half to accommodate his wishes. I was completely captivated and unable to miss a moment of this stunning machine ballet.
Don't feel obliged to comment - I'll be back by late Sunday night with more photos if the computer and camera hold up!

You were in HEAVEN weren't you?
Moose, are you referring to our place here as it was or my enjoyment of the big toys? Doesn't really matter because the answer to both is "Yes!"
HE gaveth and THEY tooketh it away, at least temporarily. As of today though, HE just might just be getting the best last laugh though. I am getting ahead of the story here though. g-r-i-n!
How close are these machines to your house?
I don't know why this is killing me, but I just hate this for you...so close to your paradise!
You sure you don't want FHB and me to go on a clandestine mission? Shots at lights sounded good to me!
Were at your service, milady.
You've just invented oilwellivision - your own personal boob-tube. Or could I call it Loob-toob? SOmething abysmally punny? Anyway, it's like you've got a real live tee vee show happening, for your entertainment alone. Glad you're enjoying it.
Lord knows Mushy and FHB have the firepower....LOL!
Goddess, near as I can figure, they're a little over an eighth mile away. Out here with no tall trees or other usual visual obstructions, it does seem a little closer. My rule of thumb for buying a retirement property in this type of terrain (or even the grass plains of the western Midwest) is a 40 acre minimum because you can see a long way. If you pick an area with plenty of conifers like Red's, you can get away with a couple of acres for privacy. But I like the idea of being able to hike for a mile or two without invading a neighbor's privacy.
Mushy, as my mother used to say "Just WHAT I'm going to do with you kids?!" I mean other than keeping your e-mail addies handy.
Don't worry that pretty head so, we are making the best of a lousy situation for the time being. While neither particularly friendly or informative, they have at least been fairly well-behaved and quasi-considerate so far. "So far" is the key.
Thanks, FHB, - because you just never ever know, do ya? So far, so good.
Phlegmmy, you have a great point there. We have been without a boob toob for YEARS but I had heard about the popularity of so-called reality TV and scratched my head over it. Now we have our own personal variety and lovin' it! I'd much rather watch this than some dweeb or mafia schmuck going about their pathetic lives.
Goddess, isn't it great to know that we have walking arsenal connections? Love it!
Okay...I am just dying to know what this means:
"HE gaveth and THEY tooketh it away, at least temporarily. As of today though, HE just might just be getting the best last laugh though. I am getting ahead of the story here though. g-r-i-n!"
Okay. I won't comment as per your post. yuk yuk I'll wait till later to tell you to have a great day and enjoy your blue skies and sunshine. I won't even tell you that we have lots of snow today and that it is below zero celsius. I don't know what that is in farenheit but it's cold. Not as cold as Moose's area by a long shot. I'll tell you all this later. HA :)
Even though I wasn't obliged to comment, I still did!
You want a real show, watch one of those articulating-style loaders work it's way out of a deep, gooey mud-hole---looks like a salamander with swim-fins, with all that twistin' and turnin', and rooster-tails of mud comin' off all four tires at the same time! Almost as much fun as watchin' an excavator "crawfish" his way out...!
I meant about the machines but the other applies as well.
Babzy, you finally got snow?! Thought you guys would never see it at this rate. Memory testing: Zero Celsius is 32F. That's cold enough for me. We had a heat wave today - it's now 39F at 6PM but it did get up to 47F! Even opened the windows a little, that's how good it felt. My weather report is coming up next!
Now THAT had to be cool to watch, Bruno. I mean I was thrilled just watching a road grader trying to get itself unstuck. The operator had that thing looking like it grew 3 extra joints and a bunch of arms. Horsepower and good operation, wow, what a rush to watch.
And I am incredibly pleased that you obliged yourself! Thanks!
Yeah, I figured so, Moose, but it was fun to run with it anyway.
Drats, Towanda, I missed replying to your comment in order. I'm anal about these things, you know.
Did my SILs warn you that I am a terrible tease?
But here is a hint: God created this beautiful paradise and put us here. The gas field (the 'THEY') decided to just waltz in and mess up our peace and best view.
Your construction show is MUCH better than "reality" TeeVee (which, I never got, either) or...God Forbid...Oprah.
Re: WX. We were supposed to hit 70 yesterday, but dunno if we did...or not. The temp was irrelevant though, as it was cloudy, windy, and rainy. It's a lil cooler today, with a forecasted high of 50. But BRIGHT!! As we NM'ers are fond of saying: "It's La Luz, Baby!"
Thank you, Buck, so it's not just us! As much as the whole scene is an annoyance, we find it fascinating as hell.
Our WX is not quite as warm. It got up to 47 here yesterday and probably won't hit 40 today but it is clear with no precip. Certainly got the wet stuff in every form and the winds for the last few days though.
