Shopping Trips as Necessary Evils

It's been two weeks since Mark's last supply run to town so we are in short supply on most of the perishable basics by now. After the incident noted in the last post, we just might go to a two week schedule instead of our previous one week intervals. This will mean getting used to buying more of any given item and it will probably take us several tries before we get the quantities right. Still, it is better than exposing Mark to more oncoming traffic than necessary, at least for a little while.

On the accident front, we have not heard any positive news so far but we haven't given up either. Many, many thanks for the moral support you have given us with your comments.

The good news is that we finally got disciplined enough to sit down and put together a materials list for the new small rear addition. It will be just big enough to house the future solar power equipment and the elements needed to give us real 24/7 on demand water in the rat trailer. You probably have no idea how exciting this prospect is after being without running water for a year and a half!!! Our wonderful Virgil helped out with the first step in making the rat plumbing water-ready and I will be writing more about that soon.

If you enjoy reading stories that make you chuckle and say "Boy, ain't that the truth!", then you have to go read the May 25th story from Alphonse Da Moose. Click on his blog link in the left column of this page. The man just has that way of telling great stories.

Glad to hear Mark is doing better physically. Maybe you should put a gun rack in the rear window of the truck. It might make them think twice about hit and runs.
Between the idiots who use that road and the price of gas, maybe every two weeks is a better idea.

catmoves,

I am still partial to your original suggestion to pick up a surplus army tank. I could work up a good Patton fantasy while creaking and clanking along and dropping in and out of the washes. Even drivers from the one infamous road hog water truck company would think twice about running us into the ditches then.

Lin, I think going every second week is smart. Don't need to take chances. Thanks for the plug. Have you finished your siding yet? Talk to you later

Alphonse,
Every two weeks is looking better all the time. Mark just got back from the town run so we will see how well we planned for things like bread and toilet paper.

Except for window and door trim, the siding is pretty much done. I need to take some decent 'after' photos!

Hi, lin. We have our shopping lists, too. We also have certain items on our "never out" list.
The very first item on that list is TP. How about an update on Mark's condition?
I can't resist it any longer: how is your rear coming along? I mean: "...new small rear addition."

If the schedule works, then by all means, stick with it!

But just don't let your fears start to rule your daily, or weekly, life---it ain't worth it! That's what those kind of hit and run people want to do---SCARE you out of the way!

Don't let 'em! It didn't work for ME, and it ain't-a-gonna work for YOU, either! Ya' just gotta get back in the saddle, after you've been thrown, right???

Catmoves,
T.P. is absolutely the prime mover in necessities out here as it is for you!
You homed in on the real problem nicely - it wasn't any physical trauma that left its scars on Mark but the psychological. This week was the first time I heard Mark say "You know, I REALLY hate these town runs." and it was not a heartening thing to hear. We really know what inspired that change of attitude, don't we? Sigh

Bruno,
I should have known that you would pick up on the REAL damages of the hit and run just as Catmoves did. I know that you have been fighting those same hairy beasts for the last 30 some odd years and I appreciate your pep talk straight from the hurtin' heart. You and Slim share the same philosophy - get right back up in the saddle! We will surely try, knowing that others who have been there are right behind us, pushing us over these jagged humps as we come to them.

Lin,

Glad to know you are both able to keep on keeping on after such a nasty incident. A two weekly run is always better than a weekly one, but only because I HATE shopping. Bruno's right, if it's done for the right reasons, that's great - but don't let a dick-head like that one you ran in to alter the way you conduct your life - so are so above that! x

ps. Thanks for that lovely TT tale, I'm saving it to use in a future post, as my biker boys are due to arrive on Friday, and I'm sure to want to write about it at some point!

Thanks, Carol
The two week supply run seems to be the outstanding consensus so far so Mark is delighted. It is a torturous drive even without playing lunatic fodder. We took an impromptu run into town today for medical reasons and he seemed fairly comfortable with the driving, fairly.

An old boss from the motor trade also responded to the TT e-mail. He'd love to go some day - have you thought about renting out your potting shed?

Are you kidding? That where I hide out in, the rest of the year!!

Shrink, your secret hideout is safe with me (and the folks who read blog comments). Everyone should have a place like that!
